Permanent Festival Calander
Like all religious places, Omkareshwar also celebrates various festivals with great enthusiasm. Besides the common Hindu festivals, two special festivals are celebrated here, which are the center of attraction for all.
Kartik Utsav
Celebrated in the Kartik month, this festival lasts for 10 days. During this time, a Panchkroshi Yatra is organized, which begins from Gomukh Ghat on Ekadashi in the Shukla Paksha, and ends with darshan at Omkareshwar Temple on the Purnima day.
A grand fair is also held, and devotees from all over India visit in large numbers and stay for an extended period.
Somvati Amavasya
The number of devotees reaches its peak on Somvati Amavasya because bathing in the Narmada River on this day is considered highly auspicious. During this festival, special worship and services of Bhagwan Omkareshwar are performed with great devotion.
Maha Shivaratri
Celebrated in the month of Phalguna as per the Hindu calendar, Maha Shivaratri commemorates the marriage of Bhagwan Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This festival holds immense importance in all Shiva temples. Special prayers and rituals are conducted on this day, and prasad is distributed.
Narmada Jayanti
Celebrated in the month of Magha as per the Hindu calendar, Narmada Jayanti is observed with great enthusiasm at Omkareshwar. This festival is dedicated to Mother Narmada. At noon, Narmada’s birthday is celebrated, followed by the decoration of the entire island and mountain with thousands of lamps. In the evening, all lamps are lit, and an aarti of Mother Narmada is performed, accompanied by fireworks. A grand feast is organized, and thousands of devotees are served prasad.
Bhootni Amavasya
Bhootni Amavasya comes twice a year, once in Ashvin month and again in Chaitra month. On this occasion, a large number of devotees gather to take a holy dip in the Narmada River.
